Student Hub – Terms of Service

Welcome to Student Hub ("Service", "Platform"). By accessing or using Student Hub, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

Student Hub is an online platform designed for university students in Finland. It provides tools that allow users to connect and interact, including:

• Skill sharing (languages or other skills)
• Coursemate and study session coordination
• Student marketplace for buying and selling
• Public user profiles
• In-platform messaging
• Feedback and reporting tools

Student Hub does not provide transportation, teaching, supervision, or any offline services. All real-world interactions occur solely between users and are undertaken at their own risk.

1. Eligibility

You may use Student Hub only if:

• You are a university or college student in Finland
• You possess a valid university email address
• You are at least 18 years of age
• You accept these required points which are stated in this Terms of Service

2. Nature of the Service

Student Hub functions solely as a communication and matching platform. We do not:

• Verify user identities or backgrounds
• Supervise or control user behavior
• Guarantee the accuracy of user-provided information
• Inspect materials or services
• Guarantee safety, availability, or outcomes

Users are fully responsible for evaluating risks and consequences of any offline interaction.

3. User Responsibilities

1. Act respectfully and lawfully toward others
2. Comply with all applicable Finnish laws
3. Provide accurate and truthful information
4. Avoid illegal, abusive, or fraudulent activities
5. Assess risks before meeting other users
6. Resolve disputes directly with other users

Student Hub does not mediate disputes between users.

4. Prohibited Use

• Illegal goods, services, or activities
• Commercial or regulated services
• Fraud, impersonation, or scams
• Harassment, hate speech, or threats
• Explicit, harmful, or misleading content
• Fake accounts or identity misuse
• Data scraping, hacking, or system abuse

5. User Content

Users are solely responsible for content they post. Student Hub may display, restrict, or remove content that violates these Terms.

6. Messaging

Messaging is provided for coordination related to platform activities. Student Hub does not actively monitor messages. Message content may be accessed only when legally required, following a user report, or when necessary to investigate abuse or security incidents, in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

7. Reporting & Moderation

Users may report inappropriate behavior or safety concerns. Student Hub may take action but does not guarantee outcomes for every report.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Student Hub is not responsible for damages, injuries, losses, or disputes arising from user interactions or offline activities. Use of the platform is at your own risk.

9. Account Suspension

Accounts may be suspended or terminated for violations of these Terms or misuse of the platform.

10. Termination

You may make your account inactive at any time. Certain data may be retained temporarily for legal or security purposes. In case you would like to activate it once again you can contact the support.

11. Data Protection

Personal data is processed in accordance with applicable EU and Finnish data protection laws. Details regarding data processing, user rights, and retention periods are described in the Student Hub Privacy Policy.

12. Liability Clarifiation

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

This Privacy Policy explains how Student Hub (“we”, “us”, “Service”) collects, uses, and protects personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Finnish data protection law.

• Account information: university email, username, hashed password
• Profile information (optional): study field, university, skills, public description
• Platform activity: messages, listings, posts
• Technical data: IP address, browser/device info, security logs

3. Purposes & Legal Bases

We process personal data for the following purposes:

• Account creation & management – Contract (Art. 6(1)(b))
• Platform features & messaging – Contract (Art. 6(1)(b))
• Moderation & abuse prevention – Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f))
• Security & fraud prevention – Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f))
• Legal compliance – Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c))

4. Messaging & Content Access

Messages and user-generated content are private by default. We do not routinely monitor messages.

Content may be accessed only when legally required, to investigate reported violations, or to ensure platform security.

5. Data Retention

• Account data: until account deletion or inactivity
• Messages not saved by users: deleted daily
• Security logs: up to 1 year
• Reports & moderation records: up to 2 years

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal data. Data may be shared only with GDPR-compliant service providers or authorities when legally required.

7. Data Transfers Outside the EU

Data is primarily processed within the EU/EEA. If transferred outside the EU, appropriate safeguards are applied.

8. User Rights

• Access, correct, or delete personal data
• Restrict or object to processing
• Data portability
